Lestle Joyce Hollingsworth, 80, Belle Plaine: Dec. 4, 1935 – August 9, 2016

first_imgLestle HollingsworthLestle Hollingsworth was born Dec. 4, 1935 in Tulsa, Okla. to Velma Conklin and Joyce Randall Hollingsworth. He was the second of their four sons.His family also lived in Colorado Springs, Colo. for a year before returning to their family farm in Belle Plaine where Lestle spent most of his school years. In 1953 he was a second generation graduate of Belle Plaine High School. He then attended Wichita State University, majoring in music education and voice. He was proud of his years as a drum major both in high school and college.He traveled the world extensively working as a church missionary. His Campaigns for Christ included trips to Bogota, Columbia, Port Elizabeth and Johannesburg, South Africa, Adelaide, Australia and Wellington, New Zealand. Lestle and Mary Hollingsworth, his wife of 13 years, later returned to New Zealand for six months. Even well into his seventies, Lestle continued his mission work in Mexico and Guyana. He also worked for Church of Christ congregations in an educational role for churches in La Cross, WI, Pittsburgh, PA and Monroe, LA.Belle Plaine, KS was always the common thread throughout his life’s journeys. He found occupation as a hair stylist and with the Department of Corrections in Winfield, KS. Upon his retirement in 2002 from The Kansas State Correctional Facility he moved to Panama City, Fla. to be near his immediate family. He very soon embraced and was embraced by the church family of the Jenks Avenue Church of Christ.Lestle leaves behind three brothers to joyfully remember his life; Kermit and wife Beverly, Loren and wife Penny, Harvey and wife JoAnn. He also leaves behind his beloved nieces and nephews, numerous first cousins and two additional generations of family that span the globe, working and living for Christ.His kind, gentle and joyful nature will be dearly missed.A memorial service will be held at the Wellington, Kansas Church of Christ on Saturday,  August 20th, 2016 at 11 a.m. The family will receive friends beginning at 10 a.m.Should friends desire, contributions may be made to the Jenks Avenue Church of Christ youth activity, Lads 2 Leaders, 3332 Jenks Avenue, Panama City, Fla. 32405.last_img read more
