The Bali administration has made the decision to expand the area of lockdown from one of three hamlets in Abuan village, Bangli regency, to the entire village. The decision was made after rapid tests indicated it was probable that hundreds of its residents were infected by the coronavirus. All the villagers are required to stay at home but will be provided meals three times a day.The decision to isolate the whole village – home to 2,640 residents – was made on Friday after the authority put one of the village’s hamlets, Serokadan, on lockdown on Thursday.Read also: Bali hamlet put under lockdown after tests indicate over 400 people ‘reactive’ to virus Earlier, the administration found eight of the village’s residents contracted the virus through local transmission after reportedly coming into contact with a migrant worker who had just returned from abroad. The Bali provincial COVID-19 task force took 1,200 blood samples from residents of the hamlet on Thursday, of which more than 400 returned “reactive” results after rapid testing. The team also took swab samples of 126 people, with all results coming back negative on Friday.“Sanglah Hospital Laboratory has taken swab samples from 126 residents whose rapid tests show they were reactive to the PCR [polymerase chain reaction] test. The Dodgers were among the losing bidders for free agent Shohei Ohtani, though not by much – geographically speaking.Ohtani will go to the Angels instead, one of seven teams the hyped Japanese pitcher-slash-slugger considered in the end.The Dodgers were one of four National League teams in the group of seven, along with the Padres, Giants and Cubs. Representatives of all seven teams met with Ohtani earlier in the week in Los Angeles. Many speculated that Ohtani would prefer to play in the American League, where he could pitch out of a starting rotation and serve as a designated hitter between starts – maximizing his time on the mound and at the plate, at least in theory. The Rangers and Mariners also were among the finalists. While being a DH might have been a factor for Ohtani, comfort mattered more. His final list of teams leaned heavily toward the west coast, and statements released by the Angels and Ohtani‘s agent both mentioned the connection he felt with the organization. Some evaluators thought Ohtani preferred an organization without a long history of Japanese players. That put the Dodgers – whose history includes Hideo Nomo, Kaz Ishii, Takashi Saito and Kenta Maeda – at a disadvantage.Money didn’t seem to be a major factor, either. Because of limits on how much teams can pay international players under 25 years old, the 23-year-old Ohtani wil earn the major league minimum salary ($545,000) in 2018.The Dodgers were limited to giving Ohtani a $300,000 signing bonus. The Angels could offer $2.315 million. The Rangers and Mariners could each offer more than $3 million. The Dodgers scouted Ohtani when he played in high school. So did Angels general manager Billy Eppler, who was an executive for the Yankees at the time. Newsroom GuidelinesNews TipsContact UsReport an Error
