Located at Durban’s Botanic Gardens, it represents the type of innovative, out-of-the-box thinking that is needed to address the impacts of climate change and the need to find solutions to a low-carbon economy that can also create sustainable jobs. Also launched on Wednesday was the Living Beehive, which contains architectural techniques of the original Zulu beehive hut construction, but combines modern materials such as steel frames with natural building materials, such as indigenous plants typical of the rolling hills of the grasslands in KwaZulu-Natal. National Planning Minister Trevor Manual made the announcement in Durban on Tuesday on the sidelines of the launch of Living Beehive, a legacy project of the UN Climate Change Conference (COP 17). 2 December 2011 Manuel said the fund would finance projects that aim to improve society’s ability to cope with the risks posed by climate change. “By recognising the importance of built and ecological infrastructure, and by bringing together natural and man-made design, the Living Beehive shows us the possibilities for job creation, service delivery and economic growth in a truly green economy,” Mabudafhasi said. The project was funded by the Department of Environmental Affairs and the UN’s Industrial Development Organisation. South Africa is now the fourth country that has an accredited national implementing entity, which translates into direct access to the UNFCCC adaptation fund. “As a country that is particularly vulnerable to the impacts of climate change, this appointment is significant for South Africa for securing the funds needed to plan our development trajectory in a way that is responsive to climate change.” Seventeen metres in diameter and nine metres high, the art installation has been designed to showcase South Africa’s rich blend of natural, cultural and mineral wealth at COP 17. The Beehive’s living walls represent the importance of healthy ecosystems and are populated with indigenous grasses, forbs and bulbs. The South African National Biodiversity Institute has been accredited as a national implementing entity for the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) Adaptation Fund. Deputy Water and Environmental Affairs Minister Rejoice Mabudafhasi said the Living Beehive was an example of nature and people working together. Source: BuaNews Zulu beehive hut construction The fund, which became fully operational in January, has conferred US$50-million worth of grants this year alone. The South African National Biodiversity Institute (SANBI) works closely with national climate change policymakers, and it has led the development of South Africa’s second national communication on climate change for COP 17. “This access, combined with our rich biodiversity and extensive mineral wealth, will allow South Africa to balance investment in optimal development futures with the appropriate allocation of resources to environmental programmes,” Manuel said.

Tags:#e-commerce#gaming#hack 7 Types of Video that will Make a Massive Impac… veronica henry Why You Love Online Quizzes Even as developers continue to churn out more and more mobile apps – especially games – they’re all struggling to figure out how to get enough people to download and use their apps. Perhaps even more important, developers need a way to make money on their apps, and that combination increasingly results in the freemium model – free apps supported by in-app purchases. The trick, though, is to give people a robust enough free app to get them to download it in the first place – but still find a way to convince enough of those downloaders to part with their hard earned dollars?Do it wrong and you’ve just given away something for nothing. Do it right and it can be a lot more lucrative than charging everyone $.99 upfront. What’ the secret? Here are 5 ways app developers get users to pony up real cash:1. The Bait and HookThe psychology here is simple. Lure in the customer with an all-too-accessible free download. With that initial barrier removed, developers then only need focus on creating a fun and engaging gaming experience. After those first few minutes (or hours) of play, it’s that much easier to get the customer’s buy-in to spend a little something to continue the experience. The desire to make it to the next level can be almost addictive. A fully invested customer will be more willing to pay to play.2. Make It EasySome of the most successful games are relatively simple – Angry Birds is a perfect example. But even for the more complex games, the early objective should be to make it as easy as possible for customers to understand the rules of the game and get started. According to veteran game developer Mike Amerson, maker of the hits My Virtual Girlfriend and My Virtual Boyfriend, this is a key strategy. “Make sure the initial engagement isn’t frustrating. Use techniques like tutorials and tips, then allow the user to practice and gain a few wins before she has to face any real challenges. Then as the game progresses, it becomes harder to achieve those same results.” But by then, the customer is already invested. 3. Timely OfferingsOnly after the customer has downloaded the app, has a good feel for it, and may be feeling fairly confident in their ability to win, is it time to drop the in-app purchase suggestion. At key “choke points” in the game, when the developer knows the customer will need just the right tool to obtain a higher level of achievement, a friendly pop up alerts players of the opportunity to make a purchase that will keep the game experience going. The U.K’s Natural Motion, makers of CSR Racing, have mastered this strategy – and have $12 million in monthly in- app purchase revenue to prove it. After working through a few easy levels, it is nearly impossible to win a race without making upgrades or purchasing another car. 4. Introduce New ItemsMobile game developer TinyCo is a proven leader in this next strategy. In its game Tiny Zoo Friends, where kids manage a virtual zoo, the company introduces new farm animals for purchase every week. One animal, “The Cash Cow” (not sure if pun was intended or not), cost one young fan nearly two months’ allowance. According to TinyCo CEO Suly Ali, the revenue from this character alone was in the neighborhood of $50,000. 5. For A Limited Time OnlyOnce customers become accustomed to making in-app purchases, developers then introduce the limited-time- only scenario. Make the next purchase for half off, or at a reduced rate, but only if you buy before the offer runs out. Most shoppers will recognize this strategy from a wide variety of retail environments – because it works. Imposing a time limit to a discount provokes that buy-now-or-lose-out feeling of urgency. It’s the ultimate pay reward system.By some estimates, in-app purchasers spend on average $14 per transaction, which is why freemium has become the dominant means of monetizing apps. For serious players, though, buying a game for $.99 up front is almost always cheaper than a freemium model where you’ll need to ante up a lot more over time. Keep that in mind the next time you download a “free” app. How to Write a Welcome Email to New Employees? Related Posts Growing Phone Scams: 5 Tips To Avoid

This as TCI needs to send a strong message as a country with laws in place to deal with illegal migrants. The message comes from Premier Sharlene Cartwright Robinson who is also cautioning persons caught harbouring illegal migrants of the hefty fine of $20,000 for such an offence. Her warning comes on the heels of reports circulating that a vessel with some 100 Haitians arrived on TCI shores early Thursday morning. While no official word on how many persons arrived on the boat, members of the Police Service together with the Immigration Task force apprehended several of the migrants, it is believed that a vast number remain at large. An appeal has been issued to residents of Providenciales to assist with information leading to the apprehension of others who traveled on this vessel, or any other illegal migrants within our borders. She adds that the summary conviction or term of imprisonment for the offence is four years, while persons acquiring status other than by birth convicted of the offense can face the possibility of their status in the Islands revoked, making them liable to deportation. A frustrated Premier, who is the acting Border Control Minister, says “It is a vexing experience as each time the country’s purse is taxed and monies that can be used elsewhere for our developmental needs are directed towards detention and repatriation”.The Premier in expressing understanding of the matter, as something previous governments have grappled with, she says the time had come to change the approach to the problem. As a result, she is promising to send a clear message to persons breaking the law as she intends to implement stronger penalties to come for those caught. The BNP has described Wednesday’s meeting of the prime minister, the law minister and the attorney general with president Abdul Hamid on the Supreme Court’s verdict annulling 16th amendment to the constitution as an ‘unprecedented incident’, reports UNB.The Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) secretary general, Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, on Thursday condemned and protest at the ‘incident’ of this meeting between the heads of the state and the government.Addressing a discussion, the BNP leader accused the Awami League government of indulging in anti-state activities by openly taking a stance against the judiciary and chief justice Surendra Kumar Sinha.“The prime minister together with the law minister and the attorney general met the president yesterday (Wednesday), and discussed the Supreme Court’s verdict that cancelled the 16th amendment to the constitution. This meeting has made the entire nation deeply worried. What the ruling party junior leaders are saying about the apex court and the chief justice can’t be allowed in a democratic system.”The BNP, Fakhrul said, fears that the government has taken a new plot to completely destroy democracy and the independence of the judiciary. “We call upon the government to put up a strong resistance against such a move.”He urged all the political parties, democratic institutions and civil society members to come forward to protect the country, its constitution and democracy. “We all must get united to defeat the evil and undemocratic forces.”Fakhrul said though the ruling party leaders often file sedition cases against BNP leaders and activists over trivial matters, Awami League leaders are openly indulging in anti-state activities.“You’re working against the country and destroying the constitution. You shall be brought to the court of people today or tomorrow, and punished for all of your anti-state activities.”He also came down hard on law commission chairman and ex-chief justice ABM Khairul Haque for holding a press conference against the Supreme Court verdict violating his service rule.Fakhrul also alleged that Haque committed a judicial offence by changing the verdict on the 13th amendment to the constitution after going to retirement. “He should be put on trial.”He recalled the political life of Salam Talukder and his contributions towards making BNP a stronger political organisation. On 20 August in 1999, Salam Talukder died on the way to Singapore for medical treatment.
