More than 1,300 residents of one central Florida city are about to receive an unexpected letter about a Thanksgiving gift made by their church.According to a report in The Lakeland Ledger, the congregation of Access Church just paid off $1.62 million of outstanding medical debt for low-income residents of Lakeland.Ryan Jordan, the executive pastor at Access Church, says a member raised the idea earlier this year of finding a way to address medical debts. Access Church then partnered with New York-based nonprofit organization RIP Medical Debt to look into the past-due medical debts that were owed by Lakeland city residents who have incomes at or below 50 percent of the federal poverty line. The total was more than $3 million.
Jake Bidwell 1 Middlesbrough have been labelled “disrespectful and unprofessional” by Brentford defender Jake Bidwell ahead of their play-off clash. The left-back and his team-mates have been made aware that Boro took their foot off the gas in their final match of the Championship season in a 0-0 draw with Brighton. The surprise scoreline ensured Aitor Karanka’s side finished fourth and faced the fifth-placed Bees in their first-leg match at Griffin Park. But the tactical stroke has riled the west London side who are now aiming for consecutive promotions at the expense of Boro.“There was a rumour going around but we tried to ignore it because you don’t think a club would be so disrespectful or unprofessional to do something like that,” Bidwell said.“But if they see us as the weakest of the teams that they could have faced then it is up to us to prove them wrong over the two games.“We just concentrate on ourselves. If they think we are the weak link, we have been proving everyone wrong all season.“Everyone had us down to be relegated and we quickly put that to bed, so it’s just another challenge and an obstacle for us to overcome.”The 22-year-old joined Mark Warburton’s side in 2011 from Everton, initially on a one-month loan.He has now made over 150 appearances for his permanent club but surprisingly, for a one-time Leighton Baines protégé, he is yet to score a goal.“It is about time I got a goal,” he said. “Anyone who has come down to training the last couple of weeks will have seen me out with the strikers doing extra shooting practice.“I would like to say I have come close a few times this season and hopefully I am saving it for a big game.”
Klay Thompson will play Friday night in Game 4 of the NBA Finals, Chris Haynes of Yahoo Sports reported.Thompson injured his left hamstring late in the Warriors’ Game 2 triumph. Though Thompson lobbied the coaching staff to play Game 3 on Wednesday, he was held out by coach Steve Kerr. Without Thompson, Kevin Durant and Kevon Looney, and despite Stephen Curry’s 47-point outburst, the Warriors lost 123-109 and are down 2-1 to the Toronto Raptors in the best-of-seven series.“The whole point …
The difference between creationist and evolutionist projects on the National Mall could hardly be more stark.Christians, who affirm God as Creator and Jesus as Lord, will be gathering this week in Washington DC for 24-hour prayer for the nation: bowing humbly in prayer to God for healing of our divisions, for repentance and for revival in the spirit of II Chronicles 14:7. Called ‘Awaken the Dawn’ 2017 from Psalm 57:8-9 and Psalm 108:2-3, the event will feature a tent for every state in the union where people can gather for prayer, worship, and national confession at all hours of the day and night. Organizers at the EventBrite page hope that this gathering will be the start of a new Jesus movement and national revival. We are calling the nation to the National Mall in Washington DC on October 6-9, 2017. We will gather from all backgrounds, not around speakers, but around the presence of God and the worth of Jesus. We will gather around the invisible God knowing that he will respond. In addition to the tents on the Mall and outreaches across the city, the event concludes with A massive gathering on the final day of worship and prayer, preaching the gospel with healing, and a commissioning to send thousands of youth to carry the gospel and complete the Great Commission! Our Evolution?A very different event is planned on the Mall afterward. This one features the installation of a 45-foot statue of a nude woman (see United Press International). The organizers are raising $90,000 to transport and erect the statue, where it will stand near the Washington Monument, lit up at night in lavender lights for four months. Ostensibly, the sculptor wanted to make a statement about the abused status of women, showing how a woman feeling completely safe would look. Its placement facing the White House, though, gives it a not-so-subtle political message. The statue was first installed at the Burning Man Festival in the Nevada desert, an annual orgy of radical self-expression where people wear outlandish costumes (or nothing at all), in unrestrained activities often with pagan overtones. What’s most telling about the occasion, though, is not just the nudity of the art (since nude statues are not that uncommon in city parks and art galleries, even around Washington). Some who honor the Bible might, after all, celebrate the intelligent design of God’s creation of the human form in a manner reminiscent of Eden. The statue shows the woman just standing – nothing more. In those respects they might tolerate the event in spite of its in-your-face, larger-than-life dominance of this national public space. No, what is most telling about the project is the name the artist gave to it: R-EVOLUTION. This can be read as either ‘Revolution’ or ‘Our Evolution’ in contrast to the “re-” words in the Christian event (repentance, revival, renewal). The Catharsis on the Mall project page makes it very clear that the organizers are cultural radicals who want a revolution for evolution:In bringing R-Evolution to the National Mall, Catharsis organizers hope to inspire dialogue among women, and people, of all bodies, ages, races, religions, genders, abilities, and sexual orientations about the role of art and community in nurturing the heart and healing, and in turn creating lasting social change. It’s difficult to see, though, how this artistic statement will help women by saying that they don’t exist. For explanation, see essay by Dr Everett Piper, president of Oklahoma Wesleyan University. As it was in the days of Elijah, so it is now. We have God-fearing people on one side, and Baal worshipers on the other. God-fearing people humble themselves in obedience to their Creator, but Baal-worshipers follow after their own lusts. Today, Baal is known by the name Darwin. How long will you halt between two opinions? If the Lord is God, follow Him. If Darwin is god, follow him (I Kings 18). Just don’t be lukewarm about your commitment (Revelation 3:14-20). (Visited 433 times, 1 visits today)FacebookTwitterPinterestSave分享0
Metcalf became an overnight internet sensation during February’s combine with his comic-book physique and blazing 4.33-second 40-yard dash — a ridiculous amount of speed for a 228-pound man. He then turned right around and disappointed athletic measurable aficionados by posting a sluggish 7.38 seconds in the three-cone drill. Brown was not slow, running a 4.49 in the 40 at 226 pounds, but he appears to have stabilized at a level well below his teammate, and it’s unclear why. According to ESPN’s Stats & Information Group, Brown caught 1,320 receiving yards on 435 routes at Ole Miss in 2018, good for 3.03 yards per route run. Metcalf, hampered by injury, caught just 569 yards on 197 routes at 2.88 yards per route run, well under the efficiency set by Brown. Combine speed only weakly correlates to actual game speed, so it’s curious that a player like Metcalf would be selected over his more productive peer. Again, it might just be based on D.K.’s shirtless photo, suggesting this could be one the mock drafters get wrong. On Thursday, we’ll discover just how accurate these expert and amateur mock drafts are. If 2018 is any indication, mock drafters will probably correctly identify the majority of the players selected in the first round but completely whiff on the exact order and the actual team to select a player, which is probably for the best. Between last-minute trades and out-of-left-field picks, it’s more entertaining when we don’t know everything going in.From ABC News: Williams, a defensive tackle, finished eighth in the Heisman voting in 2018 and closed out the year at Alabama with 10 sacks and 55 pressures, according to Pro Football Focus. Williams also ranked first in the nation in run-stopping rate with 14.2 percent, showcasing his versatility. Meanwhile, Josh Allen (not to be confused with Bills QB Josh Allen, who can hit a goal post 50 yards away from his knees) creates pressure from the outside — pressure that Eric Eager and George Chahrouri of Pro Football Focus have shown to be more valuable in generating negative expected points for the opposing offense than interior pressure. Allen’s pass-rush productivity — the share of pass plays in which the defender applied pressure on the opposing QB — led the nation at 15.2 percent. The success of Rams interior lineman Aaron Donald seems to suggest that teams might hope for similar returns from Williams, but a sharp team will focus on creating as much outside pressure as possible by choosing Allen. The Iowa tight endsOne set of players moving up mock draft boards not only play the same position, but they were also college teammates. Tight ends Noah Fant and TJ Hockenson of Iowa are both mocked to go in the middle of the first round, and they’re also the only two TEs likely to be called in Round 1. But while Fant’s mock draft graph shows a flat overall trend, Hockenson’s draft stock has surged since the combine in February. On average, he’s now surpassed his Hawkeye cohort in projected draft position. The NFL draft is a spectacle. Last year, the draft averaged more viewers than the previous year’s Stanley Cup Final. Social media and fan interest have exploded with a thirst for draft information, and media outlets have sprung up to cater to those fans with a bevy of mock drafts conducted by analysts and armchair handicappers. There are even sites dedicated to tracking the predictions of mock drafters so that consumers of draft information can properly judge who is most reliable. Last year’s top forecaster, NFL analyst Evan Silva, identified 28 out of 32 players selected in the first round and also correctly predicted the team that would select 10 of those players. That 31 percent hit rate on pairing a drafted player with a team may not seem impressive, but it was good enough to place Silva at the top of the 2018 rankings and vault him to 16th over the past five years.“You should be able to pick 26 of the 32 first-round picks rolling out of bed,” Silva said. “The hard part is matching teams to players. I’m continually surprised each year. Teams don’t act like I expect.”Despite that uncertainty, the mock drafters can give us a pretty good sense of the names Roger Goodell will call on Thursday night. Perhaps even more interesting, we can use this data to explore the player trends as the draft process has progressed. The actual draft may be one weekend in April, but draft prognosticating is a year-round affair. Mock drafts from last June hardly resemble the ones on the eve of the draft, as the stock prices of college players are constantly ticking up and down based on a host of reasons — performance, health, eligibility and results from the scouting combine.Using data from Benjamin Robinson, who has curated close to 2,000 mock drafts from expert, media and fan sources from April 2018 to present, here are some of the most interesting fluctuations over the past few months — along with some of our own analysis mixed in. After all, it’s the draft, so we are all experts. The pass rushersPass rusher may be the position most stocked with top-end talent in this year’s draft. If Oklahoma QB Kyler Murray isn’t the first overall selection, Ohio State defensive end Nick Bosa will likely be called. But two other promising defensive standouts, Kentucky’s Josh Allen and Alabama’s Quinnen Williams, are expected to be off the board by the 10th pick. Both players wreaked havoc on the SEC in 2018, and the evolution of each player’s draft value has mirrored the other’s. While Bosa has been a fixture atop draft boards all year, Allen and Williams have each steadily climbed from a late first-round position. The mock drafters probably have the ordering right: Hockenson had 760 receiving yards — 25.8 percent of Iowa’s team total, according to ESPN’s Stats & Information Group — while Fant gained 519 yards for a 17.6 percent share. Hockenson is the better blocker of the two TEs and also ran 340 routes to Fant’s 242. But it wasn’t just volume that drove Hock’s numbers: He was also slightly more efficient on a per route basis, gaining 2.24 yards per route run vs. 2.14 for Fant. Hockensen was deployed further downfield than Fant as well, earning an average depth of target of 9.2 yards — nearly half a yard better than Fant. And despite the deeper routes, Hockenson still managed a higher catch rate.149 catches on 66 targets for Hockenson, 39 catches on 61 targets for Fant. The Ole Miss receiversOddly, another pair of teammates that play the same position are also vying for a first-round selection. The fortunes of Ole Miss wide receivers A.J Brown and D.K. Metcalf have flipped since the start of the draft process. Last July, A.J. Brown was considered a high first-round pick, but he has since seen his draft stack plummet to the bottom of the first round.
Ohio State senior guard C.J. Jackson take a free throw in the second half of the Buckeyes’ game against Purdue-Fort Wayne. Ohio State won the game 107-61. Credit: Amal Saeed | Assistant Photo EditorThere have been talks about senior guard C.J. Jackson all throughout the summer.Jackson, who was No. 2 on Ohio State in points per game a season ago, has been seen as a leader for a team attempting to move on from the likes of Keita Bates-Diop and Jae’Sean Tate.On Sunday, Jackson proved his potential to be that guy.In the 107-61 victory against Purdue-Fort Wayne, Jackson had team highs with 25 points and five assists, while also finishing second on the team with six rebounds. The 25 points was also Jackson’s career high.Jackson said it was his teammates around him that allowed him to have the breakout performance.“My teammates just found me in the right spots tonight, and credit to them, just finding me and looking for me as I kind of got rolling a little bit,” Jackson said. “Once you see it finally go in, the confidence level goes up.”Though the Buckeyes ended up winning by 45, they only led by seven after the first half. The lead remained seven two minutes into the second half. That’s when Jackson took over.Already leading the team with 12 first-half points, the senior guard hit three three pointers within 66 seconds, all in succession for Ohio State, putting the team up 52-38 on his self-created 9-2 run.The Buckeyes outscored Purdue-Fort Wayne 55-23 from that point forward.Ohio State head coach Chris Holtmann said Jackson just took what the defense was giving him.“C.J. can get more happy with the three probably at times than I want him to, but they were going under a lot of ball screens today, and he’s worked on that part of his game,” Holtmann said.Jackson shot 72.2 percent on the day and made 4-of-7 from behind the arc. In the 2017-18 season, Jackson hit on 41.6 percent of his shots, and 37.9 percent of his three pointers.“The coaches stayed on me all summer, and that’s kind of where it started, right after the season ended we got straight to work,” Jackson said. “Once you get to this moment, it’s kind of like you’ve already been through it, so you just perform what you did all summer and all preseason.”Through two games, Ohio State has proven nothing about its style of play. The Buckeyes smothered Cincinnati defensively, holding them to less than 30 percent shooting and earning the low-scoring victory. On Saturday, they put up more than 100 points in the rout of the Mastodons. But in both games, it was Jackson who came up big when the team needed it.Though he only shot 3-for-10 against the Bearcats, one of those three baskets was a layup with 29 seconds remaining to put Ohio State up six. He then hit the last two free throws to officially seal the win.Against Purdue-Fort Wayne, Jackson played a complete game, looking like the best player on the court and finishing with the No. 2 plus-minus on the team.Holtmann said he liked what Jackson did on the defensive side as well, but that his team still has places to improve.Jackson said his performance only matters if it comes in an Ohio State victory.“As far as the win, that’s pretty much the only thing,” Jackson said. “We know we have to win to be successful, especially with the tough schedule that we have, so that’s kind of the only thing that I’m concerned with at this point.”
Ahead of their Thursday clash with CSKA Moscow in the quarter-final stage of the Europa League, Wilshere stated it is very important for them to keep their momentum and take it with themselves to the first leg with the Russian giants. The Gunners struggled for pretty much the whole game, but it was their January signing Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Alexandre Lacazette, who just returned from injury, that led their team to the eventual 3-0 win. The duo was able to net all three goals in the last 15 minutes of the game.Merson believes Arsenal should sign Sancho Manuel R. Medina – September 14, 2019 Borussia Dortmund winger Jadon Sancho might be the perfect player to play for the Gunners, according to former England international Paul Merson.“It’s a big game,” Wilshere said, according to the Daily Mail. “We needed that 90 minutes out of the way. We needed to get the three points, move on and keep the momentum going.”“We’ve won a few in a row and wanted to keep that going. Now we’ve got a big one on Thursday and we’re ready for that. Sometimes it’s like that after an international break, it takes 45 minutes to blow the cobwebs off,” the Gunner went on to add.
Barcelona boss Ernesto Valverde was asked about Valladolid, the state of their pitch and the controversial plan for the Blaugrana’s trip to Girona on January 27 being played in the US and this is what he says:“The newly-promoted teams play with enthusiasm early on. They still have the joy of promotion on their minds and channel it on to the field,” he said as quoted by Football Espana.“They’re a dangerous team, so we must take that into account. It’s not normal to relay the pitch four days before a match, although Camp Nou isn’t at its best either.“The players are an important part of the show. They have a voice and something to say. They only want to be heard.”Finally, does Valverde believe Real Madrid are weakened by Cristiano Ronaldo’s exit?Quiz: How much do you know about David Villa? Boro Tanchev – September 14, 2019 Time to test your knowledge about Spanish legendary forward David Villa.“It’s a similar situation to ours with Neymar, which gave us the strength to grow. Facebook Twitter Google+LinkedInPinterestWhatsApp#Bahamas, November 17, 2017 – South Cat Cay – A small plane circled slowly, flying over the blue-green waters of the northern Bahamas. It should have been a day of sightseeing, photographing an island under carefully managed development with its fragile marine resources protected as the gems that will lure those who will eventually visit, live there or leave their yachts.Instead, what they saw as they flew over South Cat Cay sent chills down their spines and cries of outrage and despair from their hearts. The group in the plane included representatives from Save Our Home, a Bimini-based organisation, Save The Bays and Waterkeepers Bahamas.Save The Bays Chairman Joe Darville said what he saw convinced him more than ever of the urgency of creating comprehensive environmental protection legislation and placing an environmental watchdog on every project.“It takes hundreds, sometimes thousands, of years to create coral reefs and minutes with heavy equipment to destroy it,” said Darville. “We are pleading, not asking, pleading with government. When will you listen? When will we begin to take these gifts that God gave us seriously and stop allowing uncaring people to eviscerate them in the name of progress? This is not progress. This is evil.”The story below is their story, in their words. Save Our Home wrote it at the close of their aerial and land inspection during early November, 2017. Their words have not been edited. The introduction, they said, was gleaned from previously published reports:In 2009, the Government of the Bahamas under PM (Hubert) Ingraham gave full environmental approval for the 85-acre privately owned South Cat Cay for an exclusive, high end, hospitality and marina project. The project will comprise a 53 room five star branded boutique hotel with related amenities, 29 marina condo units, 37 residential units, a 137 slip marina, restaurants, shops and recreational facilities. This high-end resort will also include an upmarket residential community.During the course of construction in two phases it is estimated that some 75 Bahamians will be employed, and upon completion and build out some 170 permanent jobs will be created. In addition to the $94 million capital investment by the developers, their economic impact assessment projects over $200 million in real estate sales over the first five years, which will significantly benefit government revenues, suppliers and employment. The developer said the project will bring considerable benefit to Biminites in the form of employment and entrepreneurial opportunities generated by proposed retail space and excursions in the marina village. They said they plan to purchase Bimini built skiffs for bone-fishing excursions led by Bahamian guides. A Bahamian will operate a ferry service to and from Bimini; an artist in residence program will expose Bahamian artists to new techniques; a recording space will dedicate studio time for local musicians and local cooks will be provided with classical training. Additionally, a fund is being established for primary and secondary educational facilities in Bimini to further long-term environmental awareness. It is also proposed that a marine sanctuary will be created to the south east of South Cat Cay to complement the educational initiative. But there comes a point when you start to feel like it’s just Deja-vu, that we have heard all this before, been promised jobs for Biminites, been told the highest environmental impact studies are being adhered to, but the reality is, to those of us who live here, it’s all just “hot air” and what they think people want to hear to sell us another story of jobs, progress and investment, but at what expense is the big question? On Thursday, November 9 the Save Our Home-Bimini Environmental Activist group was invited along with members of the Save The Bays team and Waterkeepers Bahamas to fly over South Cat Cay and witness for ourselves what is really going on. Pictures and videos never lie and there before our very eyes was proof that the development is taking place as we speak, without the relevant silt barriers in place, the kind that actually work and contain the silt that is, properly installed without gaps and without proof of the silt drifting for miles. Memories of the same devastation at the hands of RW (Resorts World) Bimini in 2014 during the dredging of the cruise ship pier spring to mind, with the same ineffectual yellow silt curtains that within two weeks of being installed broke open, covering the ocean in drifting polystyrene and the beaches to this day, covered in yellow plastics. The cruise ship was rendered obsolete in a year. Meanwhile, we lost 12 main dive sites off the west coast of Bimini, smothered in silt, which suffocated the corals and partially buried the stones of Atlantis, sites that divers come from all over the world to see and that locals earn their living from in dive tours. Marine life dwindled to a point that some species are no longer seen in these waters. In the past couple of weeks, more than one hundred Bahamians have been fired from RW, leaving people wondering if the resort is going bankrupt over rumors that they are losing in excess of $26,000 a day. And whilst the resort here in Bimini conjures images of a sinking ship, long predicted by those of us in the know due to the size of the development being too big for the infrastructure on such a small island, the Government is meanwhile playing out the same story all over again in South Cat Cay.Large populations of turtles used to be seen on the cays around South Cat, just like they did offshore from RW Bimini. Now the water is so muddy with silt, nothing can be seen and in Bimini an annual Power Boat Grand Prix is organized around the very reefs that are home to turtles and sharks.Bimini and South Cat Cay has a blessing and curse, a blessing that it is at the top of the Bahamas chain and so brings an abundance of tourism to these shores, but a curse that successive governments seem to cash in on in taxes from such large scale developments, none of which is seen invested back into the local communities. As Fred Smith QC has pointed out, until we have local governance and taxes made on these islands invested back into local community developments, instead of going into the countries capital never to be seen again, the family islands will continue to deteriorate and decline. One would think, that when heads of agreement come together, that a budget could be put in place with the developers to financially cover the employment of an on-site environmental advisor to monitor the development and provide weekly reports that all is in keeping with plans laid out, providing jobs for Bahamians and protecting our shores. Instead, developers seems to think they have carte blanche to do whatever they like while no one is watching. Accountability seems sadly lacking throughout the Bahamas development. At the end of the day, we are left with our natural resources ransacked and foreign developers pulling out, once the damage is already done. New legislation is needed putting the environment first in order to save one of the most beautiful parts of the world before it’s too late. With the Bahamas being such low lying islands and global warming and sea levels rising, it makes no sense not to put new environmental legislation at the top of the priorities list moving forward.Release: DPA NewsPhoto captions:Header: Sand and silt from dredging and excavating on South Cat Cay can smother coral reefs and kill the life that depends on the marine habitat. Already, say representatives of three organizations that inspected the development site this week, the once plentiful sea turtles in the area are no more.1st insert: Dredging and infrastructure work is underway at South Cat Cay where a hotel and marina were approved for the 85-acre site under the former FNM government, but environmentalists want to know where is the protection for marine resources?2nd & 3rd inserts: Inadequate silt barriers allow disturbed sand and silt to float over open waters, smothering coral reefs and suffocating the life that depends upon the habitat, potentially endangering grouper, hogfish and reef species and upsetting the full eco-cycle in a fragile eco-system. The above image was taken from a small plane flying over a development underway at South Cat Cay in the northern Bahamas. Environmentalists from three groups want to know where are those who are supposed to be protecting the marine environment of The Bahamas? They fear the project will mirror the tragedies of nearby Bimini where world-famous dive sites were destroyed by a massive dredger to make way for a cruise ship dock. The cruise ship does not call on Bimini anymore and more than 150 people have been laid off from their jobs at the resort it was intended to serve.
